Each year the Square Dance Council of New Jersey provides or helps sponsor events for square and round dancers in the state. In the past there have been state square dance conventions. In 2002 there was a square dance at Great Adventure. In 2005, 230 dancers attended a square dance at the opening of Oklahoma at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center in Newark which the council helped sponsor. More events are listed below. NJPAC SQUARE DANCE, Tuesday June 10, 2008As a follow-on to the last three years smash square dance successes, NJPAC is again inviting square dancers to "Square Dancing on Theater Square" on June 10, 2008. There will be a barbecue at 5:00pm , square dancing from 6:00pm to 7:00pm in the Plaza and a performance of Movin' Out at 7:30. Square dancers can "buy one ticket, AND get one free". Tickets range from $23 to $69. Dancing will take place in the Prudential Lobby if it rains. To buy tickets and/or participate in the Square Dance please call NJPAC Group Sales at (973) 353-8014, Monday - Thursday 10:30 - 4:30. If you just want to dance, the dance is free. THE GATHERING, Saturday September 27, 2008The Gathering is an educational program aimed at training the leaders in the square dance community. The program will start at 12:00 with a series of sessions covering 25+ topics related to square dance club operation. The keynote speaker will be Tim Marriner current Chairman of Callerlab.
Following the educational sessions there will be a pot luck supper and then a dance with Tim Marriner calling (alternating mainstream and plus) and Roy Gotta on the rounds which will end at 10pm. The cost will be $11 per person. The location of the sessions will be the Douglas College Campus Center at 100 George Street, New Brunswick, NJ 08901.
